ISO image of Team Foundation Server CD is extracted onto the local hard drive.  Setup.res.????.dll error appears after executing Setup.exe for Team Foundation Server.  Found two resolutions to this issue:  1)  Create a CD from the ISO and install from the CD rather than executing from the extracted image (that you created with ISOBuster or another solution), 2) Utilize a CD virtualization software package (like Virtual CD) to represent a CD drive and install from there.

When running the Team Foundation server install I ran into this error … “Unable to connect to the Windows SharePoint Services at MSI-PA-1471″ … popping up about 3/4 through the install.  The work around for this is (found via this post) is to validate the port on your Sharepoint Central Administration IIS virtual server.  If you had to go through multiple installs of WSS on this server the default port of 17012 is no longer used.  Change this port to 17012 and try the install again … you should be all set!

I received this error message when opening a Project file from my solutions Sharepoint site (Team Foundation server Beta 3).  After a bit of hunting online I stumbled upon a post that spells out how to work around this and the fix in the final release … here it is in short …

  1. Click OK on the error
  2. Save the file to the local drive
  3. Close MS Project
  4. Open the file off the local drive
  5. Make changes and then upload the file to the site
